June-July 2009 Guatemala: SOS Children's Village Quetzaltenango
Dental assistant doctors of the University of Zurich are implementing an SSFCE-project at the SOS Children's Villages in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala.
They provide thorogh dental and medical prevention, treatement and inspection for about 120 children. To ensure the empowerment and sustainability, they are setting up a clinic on-site by providing and establishing medical equipment, instruments, material, and drugs donated by our sponsors. They work closely with the local dentist in order for him to take over the clinic and the dental care of the children after the completion of the project.
June-July 2009 Guatemala: SOS Children's Village San Cristobal
With dental assisant doctors of the University of Zurich, the SSFCE is conducting a follow-up and check-up project at the SOS Children's Village San Cristobal in Guatemala.
One and a half year after the first project, the volunteers perform follow-up treatments and reinforce the know-how transfer with the local dentist. At the same time, they verify the functioning of the clinic on site established by the SSFCE, as well as the implementation of the dental and health prevention courses for the children at school to ensure the monitoring and the sustainability of the project.
June-July 2009 Dominican Republic: NPH Children's home Escuela Hogar
Three dental assistant doctors of the University of Zurich and two dentists are conducting a follow-up and check-up project in the NPH Children's Home Escuela Hogar in the Dominican Republic.
The volunteers complete the extensive primary care by finishing the treatments for the 220 children. Together with the local medical staff, they also carry out after treatments and prevention courses for oral hygiene in the school of the Children's Home. Additionally, further work for the finishing of the establishment of the clinic is done and the functioning of the clinic is verified to ensure the monitoring and the sustainability of the project.
July-August 2009 Switzerland: Swisscor-Camp Kinderdorf Pestalozzi
SSFCE's president of the Executive Commitee, med.dent. Stephan Baumgartner, as well as a second dentist are conducting treatments for 80 children from Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Swisscor-Camp in the Kinderdorf Pestalozzi in Trogen, Switzerland. Next to the treatments, the SSFCE also donated dental and medical equipment and material for its own project as well as for the other dentists providing treatments on behalf of Swisscor. The Swisscor foundation under the patronage of the former Swiss Federal Counsil Adolf Ogi is conducting its 10. medical camp for children from crisis and conflict regions.
July-August 2009 Ucraine: NeSTU-Project
Together with the ZZMK of the University of Zurich, the SSFCE organised a project for the association NeSTU (Network Switzerland-Transcarpatia/Ucraine). A dentist from Switzerland is assisting the humanitarian service "Healthy teeth for Children in Rachiw". Learn more here: http://www.nestu.org/zahnproph.htm.

Completed Projects
January-February 2009 El Salvador: NPH Children's Home Santa Ana
With one dental assistant doctor and two medical students of the University of Zurich as well as two dentist, the SSFCE is conducting a dental and medical project in the NPH Children's HOme Santa Ana in El Salvador.
They provided thorough dental prevention, treatment and inspection for more than 460 children. At the same time, they brought with them a great amount of relief supplies, and set up a clinic with the equipment, instruments, medicaments and medical material needed. By working closely with the local dentist, they are enabling him and the medical staff of NPH to take over after the project and carry on the dental care of the children independently.
October 2008 Honduras: NPH Children's Home Rancho Santa Fe
A dentist and an engineer as a dental assistant are conducting the first SSFCE-project in the NPH Children's Home Rancho Santa Fe in Honduras. They are providing screenings, treatments and preventive measures for part of the over 600 children. At teh same time, they are equipping the Children's Village with medical instruments and drugs.
August-October 2008 Gambia: A.R.T.-Project
The SSFCE is sending a dentist and partner to the A.R.T.-Project in Gambia. Thereby, local students are receiving vocational and theoretical training in order work as Community Health Workers who are proficient in A.R.T. treatments (atraumatic restorative treatment=restaurations without rotating instruments, GIC fillings). This task contained theoretical instructions as well as practical work with patients. At the same time, the dentist provided treatments for the local people. Juni-Juli 2009 Dominican Republic :NPH Children's Home Escuela Hogar
5 dental assistant doctors of the University of Zurich and one dentist are conducting a SSFCE-project at the NPH Children's Home Escuela Hogar in the Dominican Republic. They provide treatments and prevention classes for 200 children, set up a clinic on-site with medical material, instruments and drugs donated by our Sponsors, and work closely with local medical and dental students as well as the local medical staff, who will take over and carry on independently the dental and medical care of the children after the completion of the SSFCE-project.
April 2008: Ucraine: NeSTU-Project
"Healthy Teeth for the Children in Rachiw"
Together with the ZZMK of the University of Zurich, the SSFCE supports the dental project "Healthy teeth for the Children in Rachiw" of the association NeSTU (Network Switzerlan-Transcarpatia/Ucraine) with dental material and fillings, drugs and http://www.nestu.org/zahnproph.htm.
February 2008 Guatemala: SOS Children's Village San Cristóbal
At the end of 2007, SOS children’s village became the SSFCE’s second partner organisation next to NPH. In February 2008, a dentist, a dental assistant doctor and a volunteer of the ETH Zurich flew to Guatemala for the first project in an SOS children’s village. They brought a great amount of dental and medical relief supplies sponsored by our partner companies, and performed thorough dental treatments of the 120 children living in the village of San Cristobal. Thanks to the great cooperation with NPH, SSFCE could also make use of the formerly established clinic at NPH.
Oct.-Nov. 2007 Guatemala: NPH Children's Home Casa San Andres
Due to the larger number of children, SSFCE conducted a follow-up project in Casa San Andres, taking place in the fall of 2007. A dentist, a dental assistant and a medical student of the University of Zurich – supported by our sponsors – provided all dental and medical treatments lacking and completed the remaining successfully. The volunteers brought additional relief supplies with them and handed over the dental care as well as the clinic set up by SSFCE to the local
July-Aug.2007 Guatemala: NPH Children's Home Casa San Andres
In the summer of 2007, four Assistant Doctors of the Dental faculty of the University of Zurich – supported by the clinics of the Center for Odontology, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ZZMK) and in co-operation with the NGO Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos and the Swiss embassy in Guatemala – carried out the first SSFCE-relief project in Guatemala. They provided thorough dental and medical prevention, treatment and inspection for over 400 children. They worked closely with the local dentist, who took over the dental care of the children afterwards, and the Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala. At the same time, they brought with them a great amount of relief supplies, and set up a clinic with the equipment, instruments, medicaments and medical material needed.
